Salespeople succeed because they keep pressing on.  They persevere.  They understand that their days are littered with setbacks and discouragements and people telling them “no.”

The successful ones keep going.

And they keep learning.  Their skills are not static.  They watch their business landscape change and they learn what is required to remain relevant, both in terms of the selling techniques they use, the ways in which they share and present information, and the knowledge they have of their products and their services.

This knowledge is inevitably linked to a solution for a prospect’s need.  The successful salesperson sells solutions to problems.

These needs are the successful salesperson’s opportunities.  These opportunities are abundant.  They are gathered through never-ending prospecting.   This prospecting is focused.  The relationships it creates are cultivated into enduring relationships by the salesperson’s interest in people and an ability to get along.

Anybody can tell you “I’m a people person.”  But true sales success is fueled by the kind of understanding of people that creates effective communication.

The successful salesperson maintains a positive attitude.  Setbacks are put in perspective.  But so are the victories.  There is a discipline and a willingness to do what it takes to win.  Responsibility is accepted.

Salespeople succeed because they want to succeed.  They strive.  They wonder.  They dream.  They act.  They challenge themselves.  They know the ingredients of sales success.  They know the challenges and the hardships and the dues that have to be paid.  They know their success comes from a thousand little things done right, over and over again, until what was once nothing more than a piece of somebody else’s sales training has become second nature.
